After having some trouble getting Davical to run I found out about Baikal, a PHP carddav and CalDav server implementation: https://www.baikal-server.com/ – Setting that was really straightforward.

Baikal up and running for about a month. Now have calendar syncing between iOS, MacOS, and Thunderbird running on a Windows computer. Need a web-based client.
